Holiday activities and food (HAF) programme
During the Summer and Winter Holidays for 2022, passcodes are to be offered free of charge to the children within Dorset's Refugee Programmes, including all our Ukrainian guests, and the children of our Host Families.
We have funding from the Department for Education's (DfE) holiday activities and food programme again this year. This funding means we can offer fun activities and tasty meals free of charge to children who are eligible for benefit-related school meals.
How we use our HAF funding. We've been working closely with local organisations, holiday clubs and activity providers to make sure there's a variety of activities available that appeal to children and young people of all ages and abilities.
Take part in our current HAF events. If your child is eligible for benefit-related free school meals they're also eligible to take part in the upcoming holidays programme.

Free school meals. Free school meals are available to children whose parents or carers receive financial support (also known as benefits). Find out more about how to get free school meals.

Our Library Manager,
officially "retired" from her post in May this year.
Maggie has been Library Manager since the launch of Stalbridge Community Library in February 2013, a role she has carried out with absolute commitment and has provided ongoing support throughout that time, always at the end of a telephone and attending the Library if and when required, all carried out on an entirely voluntary basis without any remuneration.
Fortunately, Stalbridge Library is not losing Maggie's expertise and support, she is to continue as a volunteer Librarian and has now undertaken to "shake-up" the Honesty Library.
The Management Group and, we are sure, all our group of volunteers would like to express our sincere thanks and admiration for the way in which she has managed the Library since 2013.
Maggie's duties have now been taken over by the
Chair of our Management group,
and we wish her every success in her additional role.
Margaret can be contacted by e-mail on
Summer in Dorset
Are you thinking of ways for children and young people to have a happy and healthy Summer break? Summer in Dorset is an opportunity for children and young people to:
Summer Reading Challenge 2022
22 schools have so far accepted our offer of library staff visiting their school assembly to tell them all about Gadgeteers, Summer Reading Challenge 2022. Assembly visits ensure all children are told how they can join in Gadgeteers, and it reaches huge numbers of children at once. This year we hope at least 6000 children will be joining in the challenge, inspiring them to keep reading over the summer break.
If you're school hasn't booked an assembly yet, then book here.
If you are aged 14-25 you can apply to be a volunteer for the Summer Reading Challenge. It's a great opportunity to develop your personal skills and you will be encouraging children to join Gadgeteers and to keep reading over the summer break.
Free online event for schools 28th June
This summer our libraries will be running Gadgeteers, Summer Reading Challenge 2022. To inspire as many children as possible across Dorset to take part, we are delighted to be hosting an online event with award winning author Christopher Edge. His fantastic stories, mix science and storytelling, a perfect activity to support pupils STEM learning. Tickets are going fast, so make sure your school doesn't miss out, book now.
